Abstract:

The concept of modernisation and the new world perception shaped in accordance takes place in Sezai Karakaçs poetry with different dimensions. The new human typology influenced by the intellectual atmosphere of the era when he lived and wrote poems finds a central place in his poetry. As a consequence of psychological, intellectual and spiritual reactions resulting from modernity; some people turned their gaze towards the West, some remained in between and some created spiritual resistance points by sticking firmly to traditions. Such resistance points varied from intellectual approaches, education, and spiritual practises to way of dressing, perception of gender, nourishment styles, approaches towards nature, entertainment rituels as well as economic, artistic and literary manners. Such concepts as human, history, nationalism, religion, West, East and reason were re-evaluated and almost all perceptions of the society including god and religion were questioned and assessed with a completely new perspective. Sezai Karakoç deals with the incompatible nature of modernity and its destructive consequences in his poems through such themes as loneliness, loss of communication, depression, deterioration and alienation.
