Abstract:

Internet journalism is a type of journalism that has more usage areas for both readers and journalists than traditional journalism due to the advantages it provides. However, in addition to its advantages, internet journalism also has its disadvantages. For example, internet journalism has caused the most damage to printed newspapers. This is because printed newspapers are now used less by journalists, readers and even advertisers. Especially advertisers prefer online journalism to reach more audiences in a short time. At the same time, advertising revenues constitute one of the main sources of income for online newspapers. For this reason, advertising space is widely used in this type of journalism. The desire to advertise, which is rapidly becoming widespread in online journalism, is now a problem. Moreover, different practices are used to make the advertisements more visible. The aim of this study is to reveal how many advertisements are used in online newspapers and what kind of advertisements are used. In the study, the home page, the pages opened by clicking on the news and the hypertexts of the internet newspapers were scanned one by one and subjected to quantitative content analysis. The online newspapers included in the study are haberturk.com, sabah.com.tr, milliyet.com.tr, sozcu.com.tr, hurriyet.com.tr. These newspapers were selected using a purposive sampling approach. According to the findings of the study, while some online newspapers prefer to advertise more on their pages, others prefer to advertise less and include news and information instead of advertising space.
