Abstract:

The two governorates of North and South Sinai constitute a basic location on the Egyptian development’s map. Since restoring the control on the peninsula of Sinai, the Egyptian state makes best efforts to develop its fourteen cities as these cities are the growth poles, this development spreads to the other areas of the peninsula, and its results shall be reflected in quantity terms on the population size of cities and qualitatively regarding the quality of their lives. All the cities of the study area – except Nekhel city- have achieved positive annual population growth rate within the period of study (1986-2006). The rates rise in the cities of South Sinai to reach its highest levels in Sharm El-Sheikh and become the least in the cities of North Sinai to reach the lowest levels in Nekhel as it gets a negative annual population growth. By studying nineteenindicators of quality of life for population of North and South Sinai cities, the indicators are varying in time during the period of study and in location between the cities of study area. In the light of this variation the study depended on The Cluster Analysis to reach into the reality of quality of life in the cities of study area and the changes occurred duringthe period of study. The results of The Cluster analysis showed that the level of population’s quality of life in the cities of South Sinai in general was higher as the same in the cities of North Sinai during the period of study, and the coastal cities maintained a better quality of life than the inner cities. The results indicated to rise in thelevel of quality of life duringthe period of study in one city only – El-Arish, and declined in six cities as follow: Sharm El-Sheikh, Saint Catherine, Dahab, Bir-El-Abd, Sheikh Zuwaid and Rafah, while the level characterized by stability in the other cities.
