Abstract:

The concept of gender is the roles and identities that the society imposes on the individual through his innate gender. These roles are imposed on the individual by the society and individuals are expected to behave in this framework in social life. Therefore, gender roles are taught to individuals. In this context, families, schools and mass media play an important role. It is a fact that mass media have a very active role in transferring gender roles and expectations to individuals, as they are quite common and effective in our age. There are some problems with the representation of women in cinema, which is one of the mass media. In Turkey, women were pushed into the back in social life and cinema in times when the awareness and awareness of the concept of gender was not high enough and women and directors did not mention women's issues too much. The way women are represented in Turkish cinema, especially in some films shot between 1968 and 1980, has been gender-based, and this representation has mostly defined the value of women through their status, place of birth, clothing, and the changes they have to undergo. In this context, the approach that women have to change in order to be accepted is seen in almost all films shot between 1968 and 1980 in Turkish cinema. In this study, as an example, the films Feride, Kezban Paris'te, Dağdan İnme and Güllü which were made in 1970 and later, were examined on the basis of gender.
