Abstract:

The change of cultures, which usually takes place slowly, is transformed with a rapid acceleration in parallel with the developments in the field of communication and uniformization in the modern age. Since the dominant cultures that make the best use of the opportunities provided by technology use their own cultures as an element of pressure on other cultures thanks to audiovisual tools, cultures that are inadequate in using these tools in the globalizing world thanks to technological tools have had difficulty in protecting, promoting and transferring themselves to future generations, and have faced extinction over time. The change in the social structure due to urbanization has caused individuals to move away from their cultural roots in the newly formed urban culture environment and accelerated the process of extinction of folkloric elements. Today, it is seen that telephone, television and other electronic media, which are seen as secondary oral culture media, have become much more important than primary oral culture media, which are traditional means of transmission, due to their oral and visual features. In a world that has turned into a small village through globalization, it is seen that cinema both markets folkloric products as a commodity and brings dominant cultures to the forefront by changing them in the direction it wants, positively or negatively. In this article, the importance of the film Hacivat and Karagöz Why were Hacivat and Karagöz Killed?, which is an original work in the drama-comedy genre that can be considered as fantastic due to the legendary elements it contains, in conveying the folklore elements in its scenario, while at the same time conveying the meaning and historical depth of these elements in Turkish Folk Culture will be emphasized.
