Abstract:

Quality Control is very important for a product's conformance to a standard that has been determined before and for a product's competitiveness in the market conditions. Statistical techniques and engineering technology are very useful in the quality control applications. Statistical Process Control (SPC) is a quality control method that uses statistical techniques. Control charts are one of the seven major tools of SPC. These charts are the statistical tools used for keeping the repetitive process under control and to show the production data. It is very important to detect a shift which occurred in the process as soon as possible. That is because, the sooner the information about the shift that takes place in the process is received, the earlier the necessary precautions and corrections in the process are affected. So, possible bigger future problems are prevented. Which control chart should be used depends on the quality characteristic of interest in the process. In this study, we studied the Shewhart, Cumulative Sum (CUSUM) and Exponentially Weighted Moving Average (EWMA) control charts and investigated the sensitivity of EWMA to others for different shift sizes. While doing this study, we calculated the Average Run Length (ARL) values for both averages and number of defects by simulation for all three charts and compared them to fınd which control chart is more sensitive for which size of shift.
