Abstract:

The aim of our research is to determine the average birth and various period live weights of Karakaş sheep, to determine their growth and development levels and to identify the effective environmental factors. The data of the study consisted of 6000 ewes and 300 rams in the Karakaş Sheep Breeding Project carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Diyarbakır province and their information for the years 2020 and 2021. Three weighings were made in the field with birth weight. Live weights of lambs at 30th day, 60th day, 90th day and 120th day were calculated by interpolation method. SPSS Statistics Version 26 program was used to analyze the data. Accordingly, the average birth, 30th, 60th, 90th and 120th day live weights of Karakaş ewes were 4.16 kg, 10.43 kg, 17.08 kg, 24.48 kg and 30.86 kg, respectively. The average daily body weight gain GCAA of Karakaş lambs between birth-30th day, birth-60th day, birth-90th day and birth-120th day were 213.71 g, 219.5 g, 224.8 g and 219.75 g, respectively. As a result, it is thought that it is important to protect the Karakaş genotype which is adapted to the region and to carry out researches for the breeding of this genotype. For this purpose, it was determined that issues such as the supply of quality breeding rams, preventing the slaughter of breeders in elite flocks and ensuring the use of productive lambs in breeding studies, and improving highland conditions should be emphasized.
