Abstract:

Open and green spaces, which are located in urban life and also called public spaces, are spaces that are limited to buildings within the urban fabric and allow the whole society to benefit. In this context, it is important to design the spaces considering the use of everyone. Sustainable use of public spaces is possible with the quality and safety of the spaces, as well as their accessible and equal use opportunities for all individuals. In this context, bringing urban spaces to standards suitable for the use of all individuals should be the main goal. The necessity of constructing public spaces as “accessible, accessible and livable” spaces that will bring all classes of society together and include everyone should be kept in the foreground. Within the scope of the study, Ankara West Palace of Justice was chosen as an example. With this study, it is aimed to evaluate the accessibility of Ankara West Justice Palace for visually impaired individuals and to set an example in designing accessible landscapes. With this aim, the related literature was searched and the accessibility of the selected study area for the visually impaired was evaluated by supporting it with field studies and observations within the framework of universal design criteria. The analysis study, prepared by making use of the Universal Standards Guide, which is intended to contribute to the literature and set an example for future studies, can be considered as a tool for the creation of accessible landscapes in public spaces.
