Abstract:

Significant progress has been made in the identification and classification of the genres of classical literature works. Although the conceptual framework of genre remains a subject of debate, identification of new genres is possible through the addition of new works to the literature. Works titled şükürnâme book of thanksgiving and şükriyye thanksgiving can also be examined in this context. Studies that explore works under these headings reveal identifications of various genres. Therefore, it is necessary to examine these works in terms of both form and content, and based on this, determine whether şükürnâme constitutes a distinct literary genre. For this purpose, the study first addresses the conceptual framework of genre and key publications that discuss genres collectively, then attempts to identify şükürnâme as a genre by investigating its connections with related genres. Subsequently, works titled şükürnâmeşükriyye are analysed in terms of their genre characteristics, with reference to manuscripts. As a result, it is concluded that şükürnâme as a literary genre refers to works written on the necessity of giving thanks to the Almighty God, containing elements such as tahmid praise, münacat supplication, and nasihat advice.
