Abstract:

In this study, a comprehensive analysis has been conducted on the newspapers published by Fırat University, spanning its establishment to the present day. The press-publishing activities at Fırat University commenced with the Bülten, a publication of the Rectorate, which was issued in 1987. This was followed by the newspapers Basın Bülteni and Genç Fırat. The establishment of the Faculty of Communication in 2003 gave rise to the publication of Fırat İletişim newspaper, followed by Fırat Haber newspaper in the subsequent year, which underwent a name change. The aforementioned newspaper transitioned to digital publishing on June16, 2020. The publication was disseminated in print on a yearly basis. The newspaper, which has continued its publications uninterruptedly until the present day, has ensured that the academic, social and cultural activities carried out at the University are shared with the public. The newspapers coverage extended beyond the university community, encompassing the local population of Elazığ. Concurrently, it has functioned as a practical training ground for students enrolled in the Department of Journalism at Fırat University Faculty of Communication, thereby enhancing their professional competencies. These newspapers, which serve as a repository of the universitys memory, have played a pivotal role in the evaluation of the institutions development, as well as that of the city, throughout the historical process from the past to the present. In consideration of the aforementioned factors, a comprehensive analysis was conducted on the newspapers published at Fırat University. The analysis encompassed various dimensions, including publication policy, purpose, form, and content. Furthermore, an analysis was conducted of the contributions of the newspapers mentioned above to the social and cultural life of the University and Elazığ, and a subsequent evaluation was made.
