Abstract:

This article is an attempt at searching for Arabs of Iran three centuries ago, restrictively during the Safawiyan and Safawiyan-Afshari period, and include all those Arabs, whether settled or migratory bedwins, when they were dispersed throughout Iranian areas and territories from Khurasan in the Northeast to Khozistan in the southwest. It was made clear that a large percentage of the Arabs had been dealt with in sources pertaining to that period, especially “Tuhfat al Shahi” book classified by Mirza Mohammed Hussain of the waning Safawian Kingdom. The article shows that many of the tribes, who are descendants of the first conquering Arabs, are still living, when the Tuhfat was documented, in shattered parts of Iran, and that successive Iranian governments have conducted a policy of population displacement and substitution that has ultimately resulted in fundamental changes in the structure of the population in several parts of the country.
