Abstract:

Starting with Zaxxon, isometric game graphics have been preferred as a graphic style in many games from coin-operated game machine games to today. Initially, isometric game graphics, born from the technological limitations of the period, are still used in games despite realistic game graphics. In addition to the convenience it provides in terms of creation methods, isometric graphics allow the development of artistically rich game graphics that contribute to the gameplay mechanics of the game with game components created with hand-painted textures and illustration styles. In this way, small-scale game studios can compete with games developed by largescale game studios by completing their technology and workforce deficiencies with an artistically rich concept design. Accordingly, it is concluded that the conscious preparation of the visual language of the game is important for the success of the game. This study focuses on the artistic expression language of games with isometric graphics and presents the original graphic styles of isometric game graphics created by digital hand-painted method with examples. In addition, anoriginal application study was carried out in order to make a comparison between three-dimensional game graphics and isometric hand-painted game graphics, and it was aimed to reveal the contribution of artistic approaches to the visual language and gameplay features of the game.
