Abstract:

Ismail Bey Gasprinsky Gasprinski, a Crimean intellectual, educator, and publisher, has provided great services for all Turks. With his ideas and activities, Gasprinsky was able to cross the borders of Russia and reach the places where Turks and Muslims lived. In this context, it is seen that the intellectual environment in the Ottoman Empire did not remain indifferent to Gasprinskys activities. Despite the intense interest shown to Gasprinsky, there were times when Ismail Gasprinsky and his publications were banned from entering the Ottoman country, depending on the political conjuncture. On the other hand, Gasprinskys works, and opinion writings were closely followed and appreciated by the intellectuals who gathered around the idea of Turkism, including the years of prohibition. Because of the innovations he brought to the field of education, his views on overcoming the crisis periods of the Ottoman Empire, and his emphasis on the sense of unity for the Turks were beyond his time. It is seen that in the Republic of Türkiye, the greatest heir of the Ottoman Empire, Gasprinsky is mentioned extensively at certain times, and events are held in memory of Gasprinsky. Oppositely, in some periods, Ismail Gasprinsky could not find a place on the agenda of Türkiyes intellectual environment. This study aims to reveal Gasprinskys place on Türkiyes agenda with an evaluation. For this purpose, the main framework of the study was created based on the works printed and published in Turkey. The study was enriched by reviewing conference and commemoration programs in light of information provided by various sources over the years. The data obtained by means of document review, a qualitative research method, was transferred to the prepared table. It has been observed that the place of Ismail Bey Gasprinsky in Turkeys agenda is shaped depending on the mobility in domestic politics and Turkey-Russia relations in foreign policy.
