Abstract:

The orange crop is considered one of the important export fruit crops and can be relied upon to increase the proceeds of agricultural exports from the foreign exchange necessary to finance the development process and build the national economy, the research problem was the fluctuation and instability of the quantity and value of Egyptian orange exports during the period (2017-2021), therefore, the research aimed to analyze the competitiveness and optimal economic distribution of Egyptian orange exports in the most important global markets. The research results showed that the most important export markets for oranges are Russia, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, China, the Emirates, the United Kingdom, and Bangladesh, as these markets together represent about 65.84% of the total amount of Egypt’s orange exports, and about 65.21% of the total value of Egypt’s orange exports as an average for the study period. It was also shown that Egypt enjoys a comparative advantage in exporting oranges, as the average value of the apparent comparative advantage coefficient was about 43 during the study period. And estimating the market share of Egyptian oranges in the most important import markets, it was found that the Saudi market comes in first place, as it reached about 50.7% of the average of this market’s total orange imports, the Jordanian market comes in second place, as the average market share of Egyptian oranges reached about 49.5% of the average of this market’s total orange imports. It was also clear from the results of the penetration rate of Egyptian orange exports into the most important foreign markets that the Dutch market ranks first, followed by the Kuwaiti, Russian, Saudi, and Jordanian markets, where the average penetration rate during the study period was about 0.437, 0.434, 0.431, 0.425, and 0.385 for these markets. The results of using the linear programming method for the optimal distribution of Egyptian orange exports also showed that the first scenario is the best among the six proposed scenarios, as it achieves an increase in the value of exports amounting to about 80.59 million dollars, representing about 19.8%, over the current situation, which amounts to about 406.15 million dollars during the average period (2017 -2021).
