Abstract:

Yusuf Idris is considered one of the most important short story writers in the Arab world. He is known for his realistic style that addresses the issues of Egyptian society and the problems of ordinary people. Among his prominent works are The End of the World and A House Made of Flesh. In this article, we aim to analyze the narrative structure of Yusuf Idriss story House Game. This article seeks to uncover the complexities of the story, the authors techniques, and the central messages, ultimately enriching our literary experience and contributing to the development of literary criticism and writing. The importance of this research lies in the use of multiple methods to analyze the narrative structure of the literary text. We relied on various methods in the analysis; these include descriptive, structural, semiotic, psychological, and social methods. Each method focuses on a specific aspect of the text, offering the reader and critic the opportunity to see the text from different perspectives and discover new meanings and additional complexities. Thus, this research contributes to filling a gap in Arab literary criticism by providing a multidimensional analysis that promotes an in-depth understanding of literary texts and enhances literary criticism and writing. The study begins with an introduction that presents the article, its topic, and its methodology. This is followed by a critical analysis defining the narrative structure in terms of language and terminology. The elements of the narrative structure are analyzed, starting with the elements of events and plot, characters Samih, Fatin, Fatins mother, Samihs mother, and their impact on the storys structure, along with time and its types, and the analysis of structural impact through space and its types. Then, an analysis of certain specific techniques is conducted description, dialogue, symbolism. The research concludes with a summary of the findings in the conclusion section. One of the most significant findings is that the story House Game employs various techniques to construct and sequence events. These include an external narrator, classical plot structure, dialogue, detailed description, symbolism, parallels between real and imaginary worlds, and psychological tension. These techniques contribute to creating an engaging and meaningful story that reflects the dynamics of childhood relationships and simple yet profound conflicts.
