Abstract:

There are various debates about the future tense and its essence in the academic literature. While other tense markers link the time with an event, there is no real event that has happened in the case of future tense marker. Due to this issue, whether future tense marker should be regarded as a tense marker or not is also a debate among academics. This study aims to inform the reader about the other functions of-GAy and -DAçI apart from it’s known function as a future tense marker in Old Uighur. The examples and sentences provided in the study are taken from old Uighur literary texts such as Maytrismit, Altun Yaruk, the Story of Good and Bad Princes and the Story of Hungry Lion.
