Abstract:

Les Quatrains d'Abderrahman El Mejdoub, Essai Traducritique et Nouvelle traduction is a work that falls within the field of comparative literature studies. Its aim is to offer a study of the quatrains of Abderrahman El Mejdoub, an emblematic figure of Moroccan popular wisdom. Through traducritique—an approach to translation that explores the role of rewriting in literary history and analyzes the uses of translation, a concept associated with the author—Sadiq revisits the corpus of the quatrains by means of a comparative analysis of earlier translations in order to identify their “translational defectiveness.” By laying bare the “deforming systems” at work in previous studies, Sadiq ultimately proposes a new translation that respects the target language without betraying the source.
