Abstract:

In the history of foreign migration of Turkey, mass labor migrations that took place after the labor agreement signed with Germany in October 1961 take an important place. These migrations, which were initially planned as temporary, became permanent over time. Thus, there was a Turkish Diaspora presence in Germany, which reached almost the fifth generation. Also, the Turks makes up the most intensive foreign group in Germany. From the migration process to Germany to everyday and working life, and from there to the development of transnational identity, Turks have acquired many different experiences in Germany. Based on the idea that these experiences can also be a source for academic work, this work sought to understand the impact of migration on cultural identity, using many memoirs and literary stories. These memoirs and literary stories were used in accordance with the framework of understanding of hermeneutic views, as opposed to positivist views. Therefore, in this study, in which the migration to Germany, the daily and working life there and the development of transnational identity are followed through memories and literary stories, it is aimed to understand this process. In this vein, individual memories and novels were applied to the subject and tried to understand the processes that developed in migration and its aftermath.
