Abstract:

"Bad Painting" exhibition organized by curator Marcia Tucker in New Museum, New York in 1978 is in a close connection with the origins of New Expressionism and New Image Painting. Regarded to be iconoclastic and strictly against nearly all trends and techniques, Bad Painting can be considered as the artist's examination of what looks invaluable with his/her subjective approach. Consciously using wrong and simple forms and contents, destructive elements and what is regarded as bad and ugly that can also be defined as extreme representations, Bad Painting artists create their artworks by exaggerating and ironizing current styles, using out of date techniques and approaching the kitsch with a positive perspective.
