Abstract:

This project conceming the reformation and improvement of konya province was prepared and presented to the govemment in 1880 by konya province. The project included needs and demands of the province for educalion, sanitation, transportation, agriculture, development, trade and production. Some of these demands were the opening of new training and sanitary institutions, the improvement of services, the construction of modem highways between Konya and the Mediterranean ports, the building of railways, and the opening of factories on soap, wax and textile manufacture. Administrators of the province believed that when those demands were met, both the whole country and people of Konya would advance; trade and production would increase and thus Ottoman people and the government would eam a great deal of money. in the project some projects, which are stili undone even today, such as the Jrrigation Project of Konya Plain and the river h·ansportation projects between Lake Eğridir and the Mediterranean Sea were put on the agenda. it was emphasized that there would be significant progress on condition that those projects under consideration would be carried out.
