Abstract:

This study aimed to identify the level of perceived social stigma among families of drug addicts in Jordanian society from the perspective of Yarmouk University students. A descriptive survey method was employed on a sample of (100) students from Yarmouk University in Irbid, Jordan. The study utilized a stigma measurement scale consisting of 22 items. The findings indicated that the overall mean scores of the level of stigma experienced by families of drug addicts, as perceived by Yarmouk University students, ranged between 3.42 and 4.22, with an evaluation level ranging from moderate to high across the items. The overall scale achieved a mean score of 3.76, a standard deviation of 0.83, and a high evaluation level.
The study recommended launching community awareness programs to highlight addiction as a treatable condition and reduce the social stigma directed toward families of addicts. These programs should focus on changing negative perceptions and promoting social acceptance through media, educational institutions, and religious organizations.
