Abstract:

It is obvious that the policies of the actors who want to have a role in the international system are focused on power and interest. Today, in line with the power elements of global actors, interest-oriented strategies have evolved into polar regions. The effects of global warming in the Arctic region, whose importance in the global world has increased even more, are examined in terms of gain / loss, and the actors in the region are detailed. While conducting their policies in the Arctic region, global actors are moving within the framework of the 1982 United Nations (UN) Convention on the Law of the Sea, the Arctic Council and the Svalbard Treaty.
The research which examines the facts and their impacts on policies of status of Turkey in the polar regions from past to present and future is based on a literature review. It is clearly obvious that the power based policies of the global actors of the international system is in line with the principles to reach the level of contemporary civilizations drawn by the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK since the establishment of Turkey. 2023 vision is targeting a Turkey, who has an independent and powerful economy among the global actors, a society composed of qualified individuals, who is producing technology, contributing to environmental protection, pioneering in scientific research and solving its energy problems. The promising policies of Turkey are the precursors of the future steps to be taken, taking an active role. It has been focused on updating information and literature in this study, which aims to reveal the parallels with the predetermined universal objectives of Turkey’s approach. Looking at the literature, it has been noticed that the research centered on the status and policies of Turkey in the Arctic region is very limited. We believe that the studies carried afterwards and the constructive steps of Turkey will attract more attention to the studies on this field.
