Abstract:

In this study, it is aimed to determine the effects of immigration to Istanbul on the sociological structure of this city, based on the answers given by immigrant students, mostly from Afghanistan and Syria, to various questions. It is aimed to determine to what extent the immigrants from Afghanistan and Syria are affected in terms of the socio-cultural life level, education system, economic situation and religious structure of the city, or to what extent the immigrants are affected in the province of Istanbul. In the Summer 2021 period at Yıldız Technical University, participating students were asked to answer various questions. The research consists of analyzing the answers given by male and female students between the ages of 18-25 from each department, branch and class of the university to the questions asked. After asking unstructured open-ended questions to a total of 146 university students, their answers were analyzed in line with the interpretative method. As a result of the research; It has been determined that the most basic reason for the migrations made is the efforts of underdeveloped or underdeveloped countries in terms of economic, political and education to reach more developed countries. A large part of the participants emphasized that cultural diversity increased in the immigrant-receiving societies and this situation resulted in positive results for the countries, but a large part of the participants emphasized that various problems could be experienced in the social structure of the city.
