Abstract:

Migration of people to another country by crossing the borders from the country they are in for various reasons is defined as external migration. Turkey is one of the countries that has been exposed to external migration many times due to its location. As a matter of fact, the demonstrations that took place in Syria in March 2011 quickly turned into a civil war. Turkey is one of the countries where the Syrian refugees fleeing the civil war migrate the most. Asylum seekers who came to Turkey were initially taken to temporary accommodation centers established in border provinces. Later, the asylum seekers dispersed to all provinces in our country. Elâzığ is one of the provinces with a high number of Syrian refugees in our country. Therefore, the subject of this research is the province of Elâzığ. Interview and observation free observation method, one of the qualitative data collection methods, was used in the research. The aim of the research is to reveal the spatial distribution of Syrian refugees in the province of Elâzığ. As of 2023, the number of Syrian refugees in Elâzığ is 12,130. The vast majority of these refugees live in urban centers. The number of refugees living in rural areas is extremely low. Throughout the province, Syrian refugees are located in the center of Elâzığ, Baskil, Karakoçan, Keban, Kovancılar, Maden, Palu and Sivrice districts. On the other hand, there are no Syrian refugees in Ağın, Alacakaya and Arıcak districts. The urban areas with the highest number of Syrian refugees are Sanayi, İcadiye, Rüstem Paşa, Yeni, Mustafa Paşa, Akpınar, İzzet Paşa etc. in the center of Elâzığ. neighborhoods. The district with the highest number of Syrian refugees in rural areas is Baskil.
