 The ultimate aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of administering a proposed literature circles (LC) program on developing the needed critical reading skills of first year, secondary students through their English short stories component. In addition, the current study also aimed at identifying the LC student’s satisfaction/ dissatisfaction towards utilizing the proposed LC program. To achieve this aim, the four following instrument; were administered after proving their validity and reliability: 1)	The needed critical reading skills questionnaire. 2)	The pre/ post critical reading skills test. 3)	The LC student's satisfaction/dissatisfaction questionnaire. 4)	The LC teacher's guide questionnaire and the proposed LC teacher’s guide itself. The total sample of the study consisted of (99) students of first year secondary stage at El- Arish Secondary School for Girls. It was randomly selected and assigned into three groups as the following: a)	The control group, N = (33) students. b)	The LC experimental group (1), N = (33)	students. c)	The LC experimental group (2), N = (33)	students. Based on the statistical analysis of data, results	of the study	indicated that: 1)	Eight needed critical reading skills for first	year, secondary	stage	were identified, in the light of the review of literature, related studies and administering the needed critical reading skills questionnaire. 2)	There were significant statistical effects in the post administration of the critical reading skills test in general in favour of the LC experimental groups (1) & (2). 3)	There were no significant statistical differences between the mean scores of the LC experimental groups (1) & (2) at the post administration of the critical reading skills test. 4) Both the experimental groups (1) & (2) showed satisfaction towards utilizing the proposed LC program. Discussion of findings, recommendations, and suggestions for further studies were also presented.
