Abstract:

This study aims to determine the differentiations in urban-specific attitudes and behaviors of individuals regarding urbanization as a result of urban transformation practices and physical and social change of urban space in Yükseltepe and Şehit Kubilay neighborhoods of Keçiören district of Ankara. In this context, the opinions and experiences of the participants participating in the research on urbanization; It has been tried to determine who is from the city, what the most important profile of the urban individual is, whether they feel urban or not, the length of stay in the place where they live and the sense of belonging. The research is a field study based on quantitative method. In the stage of obtaining the sample from the research universe, the probability-based sampling technique was applied. In order to obtain the research data, a face-to-face survey technique was applied and a survey was conducted with 405 people. According to the findings, it has been concluded that although the previous social structure of the research region has slum behavior patterns, as a result of urban transformation practices, the social change of the urban space and its integration with the city, bring urbanization with it. At the same time, as the duration of residence in Ankara increases, the rate of feeling of belonging to the place of residence also increases. As a result, as the length of time individuals live in the city increases, both the sense of belonging increases and the adaptation to the living space and social integration occur. Thus, more city-specific socio-cultural experience and equipment are gained in the urbanization process.
