Abstract:

The Short Chronicle of Lesbos is the only chronicle that is a candidate to be the history of the House of Gattilusio and which directly deals with the Lordship of Gattilusio, a semiindependent state that ruled over the surrounding regions centered on Lesbos and Ainos between 1355 and 1462 under the patronage of the Palaiologian Dynasty. The source contains short notes about what has happened from the beginning of the Gattilusio rule on the Island of Lesbos in 1355 to the period of Jacopo Gattilusio 1404-1428. The importance of the chronicle increases even further when considered together with the fact that the Byzantine historiographical tradition was on hiatus in the latter half of the XIVth century. In this study, it is aimed to publish the Short Chronicle of Lesbos, to translate it from Greek to Turkish, to introduce the source to Turkish literature, to examine it and to reveal its importance as a source. In addition, based on the chronicle, evaluations will be made about the period of Gattilusio domination in Lesbos.
