Abstract:

In this study, the accumulation of the Ottoman social structure and the stages which went through in the journey to the republic and the dynamics in the current socio-economic and cultural structure of the republic are going to be discussed around the works of Gursoy Akca. Specifically, history, legitimacy, culture, state and social system and how he evaluated the tools that make up this system and how he read the existing social structure with these tools will be revealed. While Akca’s studies enabled him to be competent in both theology, sociology and anthropology, it also facilitated the reader to follow the traces of continuity and social separations from the Ottoman to the republic. In this respect, ‘Ahilik’, which is one of the forms of social organisation, and what he has transferred to the now is significant. Defending the continuity of cultural figures and symbols instead of structural organisation, Akca advocates that the means such as culture, state, law and knowledge should be included in the mindset as a continuity of the nation-state process and at the same time social and cultural dynamics continue in the same manner. In this respect, Akca’s works; yesterday the Ottoman Period, today’s traditions from yesterday and the nation-state tomorrow” will be dealt with by social processes.
