Abstract:

Ankara local music, as an important part of Turkish folk music, is a musical tradition that both reflects the local identity and carries aesthetic values specific to the region. Under the influence of modernization and globalization processes, local music can be subjected to various cultural erosion. This research, which aims to examine the local music of Ankara from the perspective of cultural disinformation, deals with the transformation process in both the traditional context and the representation of the music today. The commodification of culture through globalization causes traditional music, which is a common product of societies, to lose its meaning and functions by being included in the homogenization process. With the commodification of culture, traditional music is taken out of its authentic context and presented to the masses. Performances in entertainment venues such as pavilions, casinos, music halls, folk bars, night clubs, changing the melodic structure of Ankara regional music and moving away from the acoustic form of the baglama, which is one of the dogmas of this culture, using obscene-slang idioms instead of traditional lyrics, playing folk dances with clothes and figures that are not suitable for the original, and similar practices constitute a situation contrary to the authentic structure of local music and add different interpretations to musical performance. In this study on the disinformation of Ankara local music from a cultural perspective, the relevant literature was reviewed and the situation was determined. Cultural disinformation transforms the traditional function and meaning of music, threatens the cultural identity of the region and causes the loss of its traditional structure. The study concludes that preserving the cultural meaning and value of Ankara local music is not only an ethnomusicological responsibility but also critical for the protection of cultural identity.
