Abstract:

The censorship, meaning communication, all kinds of publications, cinema and theatrical screenings were controlled by the government beforehand, was an application put into effect by the Ottoman Empire during the First World War. The Ottoman State, having entered the First World War on the side of the Alliance States, signed an alliance agreement with Germany on August 2, 1914 before entering the war. On the day of signing the alliance agreement with Germany on August 2, 1914; the state declared mobilization and decided to censor. The reason for the censorship decision was to prepare the public for the war psychologically as much as to hide the mobilization preparations. Thus, the voices of the opponents of war would be reduced and newspapers would be made to broadcast in favor of the allied nations. The decision to censor continued until the end of the First World War. Although the political censorship was loosened a bit towards the end of the war, the military censorship continued in the same way.
