Abstract:

Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) on the duration of mandibular anterior crowding alleviation during clear aligner therapy. Materials and methods: A randomized clinical trial with twenty-two participants treated in the Orthodontic Department outpatient clinic and fulfilling the eligibility criteria were enrolled in the study. Patients were randomly allocated to group A (Conventional Clear aligner therapy) or group B (LLLT assisted clear aligner therapy). Mandibular anterior alignment duration and pain assessment during treatment were recorded and compared for both groups. Results: The results of the study showed that laser application resulted in a 41 % reduction in total alignment duration, as shown by a total alignment duration of 12.64 +/- 6.28 weeks for the laser group and 21.45 +/- 7.3 weeks for the control group. The results of the present study also demonstrated that LLLT significantly reduced pain perception in patients undergoing clear aligner therapy. Conclusion: Combining LLLT with clear aligner therapy can shorten treatment duration and reduce treatment pain significantly.
