Abstract:

Coffeehouses, as fundamental institutions of social life and a social meeting place with daily practice and public space functions such as socialisation and entertainment, play an important role in preserving and transmitting Turkish culture to future generations. Coffeehouses, which have gained importance as places for the creation and performance of oral tradition, continue this tradition today. This study focuses on Âşıklar Gönül Konağı Minstrels Heart Mansion, one of the coffeehouses in Ankara, established in 2009 in Sincan by Minstrel Veysel Yıldızer, who immigrated to Ankara from Kars, and is currently maintained by Minstrel Veysel Yıldızer and Orhan Yıldızer. The study aims to determine the function of the mansion as a venue for minstrel performances. The essay will initially provide information on traditional minstrel fasıls and those organised in Âşıklar Gönül Konağı. It will then focus on the minstrel tradition in Turkeys Eastern Anatolia Region, which is an important place in terms of minstrel tradition and where the founder, performers, and participants of the Âşıklar Gönül Konağı are all from. Then, the Âşıklar Gönül Konağı representation structure will be examined by comparing traditional minstrel fasıls to those organised at the mansion. In the study, data were compiled by ethnographic research methodologies based on semi-structured questions. Information was gathered through interviews with the coffeehouse owner, Minstrel Veysel Yıldızer, performers Minstrel Paşa Susanoğlu, Minstrel Şemsettin Güneş and Minstrel Mehmet Şirin. Participant observations were also conducted by attending fasıls during a month held at regular intervals.
