Abstract:

In this article, the story of Joseph was discussed in detail on the axis of truth and lie. The story of Joseph is told in chronological order and in a comprehensive manner. Therefore, it can be handled from different dimensions. It is extremely rich and impressive in terms of themes, motifs, concepts, characters and paradigmatic elements. Although different aspects of this story are mentioned in academic studies, it has not been discussed on the axis of truth-lie. However, this is one of the basic messages that the stories want to give. In the story, there is a strong emphasis on the virtue of truthfulness, as well as data on the negative consequences of lying. Yusufs being described as Ṣiddīq, his brothers inability to persevere in the truth. The words and actions of Zulaikha, the events that took place during the confrontation with their brothers, the dialogues that took place during the detention of Benjamin. The issues that indicate Yusufs faithfulness were analysed together with the process and its results. Every incident and phenomenon revolving around truth and lie in words and behaviour was processed with the sociological commentary method, and thus one of the basic messages of the story was made more concrete.
