Abstract:

Although it is difficult to define the concept of time precisely, it had to be organized through a calendar (years, months, weeks, days, hours, and minutes). The value of time increased with the development of capitalist societies, and a new division of time emerged, based on two types: work time, which is production time, and leisure time. According to economic logic, it was also necessary to invest in leisure time; this is where the media plays an important role in reshaping the concept of time. And the emergence of the concept media time, which began with Print journalism and news agencies and grew with the development of live broadcasting technologies, leading to the second generation of the web and beyond.
Media time is a symbolic time that public experience symbolically through their use of media, which allows experiencing another present, thereby merging times and eliminating spatial distance. Looking at media content, we find that it presents a different dimension of the present that does not correspond to the present of the audience, thus causing a discrepancy between times and alienation from the space.
Therefore, this article aims to demonstrate the evolution of the concept of time, and the role of media in shaping it, based on the descriptive analytical approach.
