Abstract:

 

Baths which were offering the opportunity to bathe in a hot space with hot water, were built as masonry with technical details related to water and heating systems. These buildings that were an important part of social life in the Ottoman period, and therefore they were the subject of many historical documents. These documents could be written documents such as edict, fatwa, kadi registry, repair costs, as well as visual documents such as drawings, sketches, miniatures, photographs, and they recorded the baths from different angles. This article, based on the visual and written archival documents, aims to investigate the technical details related to water and heating systems of baths by questioning these historical documents together with existing bath buildings. These details, which are reflected in historical documents, will contribute to the literature in terms of terminology, materials and technical solutions regarding bath buildings. These details are discussed by questioning through the cases of baths built in the Ottoman period in Anatolia and reached today. With this study, it has been revealed that archival documents are important sources that can include the functioning of the baths and the technical details. These buildings, which are cultural assets that are used or not used in their original function today, need to be conserved together with their details. This article also aims to transform these technical details of the baths, which are reflected in historical documents, into usable information to analyze the building correctly and to carry out correct conservation practices.

 

Hamamlar, sıcak su ile sıcak mekânda yıkanma imkânı sunan, kâgir olarak inşa edilmiş, suya ve ısınmaya bağlı teknik detayları geliştirilmiş olan yapılardı. Osmanlı döneminde toplumsal hayatın önemli bir parçası olan bu yapılar, bu özelliklerinden ötürü de tarihi birçok belgeye konu olmuşlardı. Bu belgeler ferman, fetva, kadı sicili, tamir keşfi gibi yazılı belgeler olabildiği gibi, çizim, kroki, minyatür, fotoğraf gibi görsel belgelerdi ve hamamları farklı açılardan kayıt altına almışlardı. Görsel ve yazılı arşiv belgelerine dayanarak bu makale, hamam yapılarının suya ve ısınmaya bağlı yapısal detaylarını, bu belgeler ve mevcut hamam yapıları üzerinden sorgulayarak ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Tarihi belgelere yansıyan bu detaylar, hamam yapılarına ilişkin terminoloji, malzeme ve teknik çözüm bağlamında literatüre katkı sağlayacak niteliktedir. Bu detaylar, Anadolu’da Osmanlı döneminde inşa edilmiş ve günümüze ulaşmış hamam örnekleri üzerinden sorgulanarak ele alınmıştır. Bu çalışmayla arşiv belgelerinin, hamamların işleyişi ve yapısal olarak detay çözümlerini içerebilen önemli kaynaklar olduğu da ortaya konulmuştur. Bugün özgün işlevinde kullanılan veya kullanılmayan kültür varlığı niteliğinde olan bu yapıların, detayları ile birlikte korunması gerekliliği söz konusudur. Bu makale aynı zamanda, tarihi belgelere yansıyan hamamların bu teknik detaylarının, yapıyı doğru çözümlemek ve doğru koruma uygulamaları gerçekleştirmek için kullanılabilir bilgiye dönüşmesini de hedeflemiştir.
