Abstract:

Abstract
The term margin was popularized in the modern literary arena. Although the term seems modern, its themes are present in our Arab heritage under other names such as the Saàlikes (tramps) of the Umayyad era, the poetry of Tofaylyin (parasites), Makdin (beggars), Chatar (thieves), and other folk class poets of the Abbasid era. The appearance of the margin poetry was an inevitable consequence of the economic and social conditions experienced by these poets. They expressed in their poetry how miserable they were as poverty manifested itself in all its forms in their poetry. They described the inferiority of their homes, their homelessness, their hunger, their nudity, and they sanctified the loaf and also expressed their dreams in a satirical manner that implies a curse and revolution due to their marginalization.
