Abstract:

The clashes between Hamas and Israel, which began on October 7, 2023, have gone beyond the Israeli-Palestinian issue and have sparked global discussions. The Clash of Civilizations theory developed by Samuel Philips Huntington has brought to the agenda the discussion that the Israeli-Palestinian issue is also a problem between different civilizations. Huntington has frequently made global hegemonic propaganda of the West in his writings and warned that conflicts between civilizations will intensify. He has directed orientalist criticisms against religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Confucianism and Islam. According to Huntington, the Western world is faced with the challenge of other civilizations on which it cannot impose its own civilized values. Wars between civilizations will arise due to cultural differences rather than economic and political reasons. The theory of conflict between civilizations has had great repercussions in the disciplines of international relations and political science. The aim of the study is to analyze the Israeli-Palestinian war in the context of Huntingtons Clash of Civilizations theory. This study is based on the claim that the Israeli-Palestinian issue is a confrontation between civilizations. Within the scope of this study, books, book chapters, articles, reports and newspaper reports on the subject were examined. In the study, a case analysis was conducted within the scope of comparative analysis as a qualitative research method. The historical development of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was chosen as a case study.
