Abstract:

The word “Vahşiyyat” refers to savage animals in deserts. Kitabü’l-Vahşiyyat, which is formed as an anthology, is the second significant work by Ebu Temmam. The book is made up of ten chapters. Strange and less-known poems by the poets of Arabian literature who lived during the reigns of the Umayyad Dynasty and the Abbasids as well as in the period of General Ignorance and during the emergence of Islam are found in the book. The most significant characteristic of these poems is the fact that they are about courage and heroism. The poems in the book are weaker in style and expression than those in Kitabü’l-Hamase. Nevertheless, they are very important in that they form one of the earliest examples of anthology in the history of literature. Although the book is overshadowed by Kitabü’l-Hamase, it is the first and the only book bearing the title “Vahşiyyat”. There are 507 poems from about 300 poets. Kitabü’l-Vahşiyyat has never been expounded so far.

Vahşiyyat, çöldeki vahşi hayvanlar demektir. Kitabü’lVahşiyyat, Ebu Temmam’ın antoloji tarzındaki ikinci önemli eseridir. Eser, on bölümden oluşur.
