Abstract:

The paper aimed at recognizing the reality of advertisements in Palestinian newspaper, and evaluating their advertisement topics in terms of nature, style and appeals, with the purpose of identifying their strengths and weaknesses. A content analysis device was designed and applied to a sample of Palestinian newspapers (Al-Ayyam, Falastin and AL- Quds) to collect the necessary data. The findings indicated that the sample newspapers do not pay much attention to advertisement. However, they very much take advertisements less than eight cm. in size especially, social advertisements, e.g. obituaries, in the first place, those which have rational appeals addressing various categories of the public. The target newspapers depend on the industrial companies as a source of advertisement, and focus on the rectangular layout, prepared in black and white advertisements and produced in the inside pages at the bottom of the page.
