 The purpose of this study is to examine the practices of preschool teachers in the process of recognizing and evaluating refugee children and their views on the process. The study was designed as a case study within the framework of qualitative research methods. The participants of the study consisted of 10 preschool teachers who had refugee children in their classes. The data for the study were gathered using semi-structured interview forms.According to the findings of the study, it was determined that teachers mostly used informal assessment techniques in order to recognize and evaluate refugee children and that the fact that refugee children did not know Turkish was also effective in this case. It was determined that teachers mostly used the development observation form. It was revealed that teachers included parents in the process of recognizing and evaluating refugee children, however, they were inadequate in recognizing and evaluating children due to communication problems they experienced with both children and parents due to the language barrier.

 Bu çalışmanın amacı okul öncesi öğretmenlerinin sığınmacı çocukları tanıma ve değerlendirme sürecindeki uygulamaları ile sürece ilişkin deneyimlerinin incelenmesidir. Çalışmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden durum çalışması olarak desenlenmiştir. Araştırmanın katılımcıları sınıfında sığınmacı çocuk olan 10 okul öncesi öğretmeninden oluşmaktadır. Veriler yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formları aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Araştırmanın bulgularına göre öğretmenler sığınmacı çocukları tanıma ve değerlendirme amacıyla çoğunlukla informal değerlendirme tekniklerinden yararlandıkları ve bu durumda sığınmacı çocukların Türkçe bilmemesinin de etkili olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Öğretmenlerin çoğunlukla gelişim gözlem formunu kullandıkları belirlenmiştir. Öğretmenlerin sığınmacı çocukları tanıma ve değerlendirme sürecine ebeveynleri dahil ettikleri, bununla birlikte hem çocuklarla hem de ebeveynlerle dil engeline bağlı yaşadıkları iletişim problemleri nedeniyle çocukları tanıma ve değerlendirmede yetersiz kaldıkları ortaya konmuştur.
