Abstract:

The mound settlements identified as belonging to the prehistoric period and later periods in the Akarçay basin, one of the transitional cultures of Inner-Western Anatolia, prove that the first traces of settlement date back to the Neolithic Age. In this context, the mentioned traces can be seen in this mound type settlement called Sarımsaklı Höyük, located within the borders of Yenikarabağ Village in Sultandağı district of Afyonkarahisar province and surroundings. In addition, it has been determined that painted Iron Age ceramics, which we know from the river and lake edges, and especially from the Lake District are widely seen in the region. In this study, the data obtained as a result of systematic archaeological surface surveys conducted in the mentioned mound settlement and territory were evaluated. Sarımsaklı Mound is associated with the early period cultures Bolvadin-Sinneli and Çobanlar-Pani close to the plains and flat areas of the Akarçay basin and the Early Bronze Age and 2nd Millennium BC culture regions of the Lakes Region on the Sultandağı pass route in the areas extending to the mountainous areas. In addition, the high-quality ceramics from the 2nd millennium BC in the mound reveal the dynamics and development of this region and the existence of a local production.
