Abstract:

In a linear economic system, natural resource is first taken from its place, then processed into a product and finally used and turned into waste. The linear economy is a system in which raw materials or products are thrown away after use and resources are treated as if they will never run out. The circular economy, which is the opposite of this system, is a system in which raw materials used during the production process and final products are re-evaluated and recycled back into the economy. The circular economy is a system in which resources are used for as long as possible, thus obtaining maximum value and products and materials are improved or rebuilt at the end of their service life; it is an alternative to the traditional, linear economy based on take-produce-consume-dispose approach. Transforming instead of throwing away and generating new resources are among the most important goals of the circular economy. Thanks to this sustainability and innovation-based production model, it is possible to minimize raw material costs and maximize resource efficiency and environmental benefits. The aim of this study, which focuses on the transition from the traditional linear economy to the modern circular economy, is to outline some of the most prominent countries. During the study, its found that Germany ranked first in the number of patents related to circular economy and in the recycling rate of household waste. Its thought that the regulations, legislation, policies and practices developed in model countries such as the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Norway and France on recycling, which is one of the most important components of the circular economy, will inspire and guide developing countries like Turkiye.
