Abstract:

Abdul Hamid al-Farahi or Hamiduddin Farahi is one of the great Islamic scholars of India. He left for us many valuable works on Islamic and Arabic Studies especially in the field of commentary on the Holy Quran. His commentary on the Quran entitled “Niḍām al-Qurʼān” was appreciated by the famous Egyptian Quranic commentator Muhammad Rashid Rida. However, what concerns me here that Farahi also left a small collection of his Arabic poetry. Many scholars wrote articles and presented papers on different aspects of Farahi’s works. However, as far as I know, none of them has dealt with the style of his Arabic poetry. I, therefore, would like to throw light in this article on the style of his Arabic poetry including the influence of the Holy Quran, Hadith (Prophetic tradition) and the ancient Arabic poetry on Abdul Hamid Farahi.
