Abstract:

Ottoman Empire gave first priority to find entities allocated to common use
of public, and their maintenances and repairs in regions where they conquered in consequence of wars. Following the period of the maintenance and repair, primarily Ottoman
dynasty, grand viziers, viziers, sanjak-beys, reputable beneficent people established charitable foundations in those regions.
In the Ottoman era, even though the foundations were local in itself, they were legal entities
which could be established by state’s permission, and audited by the state. Therefore,
it necessitated to keep accounting records for tracking monetary proceedings of the
foundations. Accordingly, the auditions of the foundations, operated in the related term,
were carried out substantially based on the accounting records as it is now. Thus, some
of the inventories belongs to Gazi Hüsrev Bey Foundation -located in Sarajevo, BosniaHerzegovina- which kept the accounting records, and the expenses arose out of repairs and
maintenances were reached from the Prime Ministry, Directorate of Ottoman Archives. As a
result of the research on the Ottoman archival records, the inventory with 16663 registration
number was found that it shows expense items of the maintenance and the repair of “Çifte
Hamam” one of the entities of the Gazi Hüsrev Bey Foundation. Thus, the questions of how
bureaucratic procedure and process of maintenance, repair of the foundations, and how
important the inventories were in Ottomans are the main topics of this study. Therefore,
the aim of this study is to give results obtained from the analysis of the inventory, and the
accounting records of “Çifte Hamam” belonged to the Gazi Hüsrev Bey Foundation.

defterinin, Gazi Hüsrev Bey musakkafatında bulunan “Çifte Hamam”a ait tamir, bakım
