Abstract:

Gender roles often force women to stay at home. Patriarchal attitude; it prevents women from participating in social life -due to their domestic responsibilities and unwelcome behaviour outside the home. Especiaaly in urban areas, women are disadvantaged in terms of using urban spaces. Cities are generally designed according to masculine needs or vehicles. Especially for women caring for children, elderly or disabled family members, it is even more important to make the urban space suitable. Failure to make arrangements in this regard causes them to move further away from the city. The Women Friendly City approach supported by the United Nations aims to protect womens rights in the city, to participate in local decision-making processes and to ensure gender equality. In this study, urban design and services in Ordu province are analysed from the perspective of The Women Friendly City. In this study, it has been observed that many improvements were made in the areas of training, , employment and support for womens organizations.. However, it has been determined that there are problems in terms of womens participation in governance, transport, traffic, security and designing the urban area according to women in Ordu province.
