Abstract:

The most important element that contains the cultural characteristics of a region is undoubtedly folk songs, which are oral cultural elements. Folk songs of a certain region are fed by an unlimited universe of topics that can be derived from the dynamics of the social life of the society in which they are produced, their traditions, religious life, geographical structure, abstract and concrete cultural values, foods, plants and animals growing in the region, in short, the possibilities of daily life. It directly contributes to the process of nationalization over time by mediating the verbal and non-verbal transmission of societys culture from generation to generation, developing individuals sense of belonging to the society they live in. Therefore, the vocabulary found in folk songs is important in this context. Safranbolu is a district center of Karabük province in the Western Black Sea Region of our country. Dating back to the 3000s BC , Safranbolu has hosted many cultures in its history. This situation has enabled Safranbolu to gain a multi-layered cultural structure. The city, which carefully preserves its cultural structure and intangible and concrete cultural assets as if they defy time, was included in the world heritage list by UNESCO in 1994 In this study, in addition to the Safranbolu folk songs in the repertoire of the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation TRT belonging to the Safranbolu region as a source, a total of 58 folk songs in the book titled Safranbolu Folk Songs and Game Airs written by Adnan ATAMAN, compiled by ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory Artist Lecturer Dr. Süleyman ŞENEL and prepared for publication by giving the notes, source people, compiler and notator information were examined within the scope of literature review and the cultural motifs contained in terms of vocabulary were determined. As a result of the research, many architectural, geographical and cultural vocabulary assets have been identified in the region in the historical process and it has been determined that there is a parallelism between social life and geographical structure. Both qualitative and quantitative approaches were used in the methodology of the research.
