Abstract:

This study aims to analyze the mission and vision statements of universities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus TRNC using content analysis and to evaluate their relationship with the strategic orientations and educational policies of these institutions. The research focuses on the mission and vision statements of five universities included in the 2024 Higher Education Entrance Exam guide. MAXQDA software was utilized to conduct statistical word analysis, code intersection maps, and thematic analyses. The findings indicate that the most frequently emphasized themes in the mission and vision statements of universities are education and training, global perspective, ethical values, student-centeredness, and sustainability. Among these, education and training was identified as the most interactive component. Additionally, the increasing emphasis on social responsibility and sustainability in university statements was observed. However, it was also determined that themes related to technology, economy, politics, law, and sports were insufficiently addressed. As a result, the necessity for updating the mission and vision statements of the universities in the TRNC to align with global educational demands has been highlighted. It is suggested that universities include more comprehensive, contemporary, and sustainable development perspectives in these statements.
