The architectural cultural heritage in Algeria represents a significant civilizational and cultural asset. Like all forms of national cultural heritage, it holds historical, civilizational, scientific, social, economic, artistic, and aesthetic value. It reflects the intellectual and cultural progress achieved by Algerian architects through the evolution of Algerian architecture. Therefore, it is essential to preserve, enhance, and utilize this heritage to support national tourism.
Safeguarded sectors are considered a form of Algeria’s architectural heritage. They include kasbahs, historic cities, palaces, villages, and traditional residential complexes, characterized by the predominance of residential areas and notable for their architectural and aesthetic harmony. These sectors possess historical, architectural, artistic, or traditional significance that justifies their protection, restoration, rehabilitation, and promotion.
The Algerian state has given great importance to the field of architectural heritage by enacting various laws to ensure the proper management of this cultural legacy, most notably Law 98-04. In addition, several institutions have been established under government supervision to ensure the strict implementation of these laws, with the National Agency for Safeguarded Sectors playing a leading role.
Based on the above, this work will address the mission of preserving architectural heritage through the responsibilities of the National Agency for Safeguarded Sectors.
