Abstract:

Cities and governorates are among the most important spatial elements related to population and require many geographical studies that support their development, planning and prosperity. The aim of the current study is to determine the reality of spatial distribution of housing and population in the governorates of Makkah Al-Mukarramah region. In addition, the study also aimed to determine population density patterns and population concentration areas, To reach the results of spatial statistical analyses of population and housing data To achieve its objectives, the study adopted spatial analysis approach based on population and urban data in Makkah Al-Mukarramah region and limiting this data as numbers and percentages through the population and housing census data for the year (2022).The study also relied on the spatial analytical approach, which focused mainly on analyzing the reality of population distribution in the governorates of the Makkah Al-Mukarramah region and population density according to the governorates under study, with the use of the using statistical methods and cartographic methods for statistical data through geographic information systems technology using the ARCgis10.8 program. The study reached significant results, the most important of which include, there are three main governorates of population concentration in Makkah Al-Mukarramah region, Jeddah Governorate coming in first place with a percentage of 46.80%, followed by Makkah Al-Mukarramah Governorate with a percentage of about 30.30%, and Taif Governorate coming in third place with a percentage of 11.40%. The value of the nearest neighbor index reached about (1.55), which confirms that the distribution pattern of the governorates of Makkah Al-Mukarramah region is the dispersed pattern. In addition, the distribution pattern of the governorates of Makkah Al-Mukarramah region according to housing element and population element for the year (2022) according to the spatial autocorrelation analysis is the random pattern. The study recommended the necessity of future planning to work on finding elements of population attraction in all governorates to reduce the population numbers in the governorates of Makkah Al-Mukarramah, Jeddah and Taif, and work on finding a balance in the distribution of population in all governorates of the Makkah Al-Mukarramah region.
