Abstract:

Fire incidents occurring in student dormitories not only pose a threat to occupational health and safety, but also seriously endanger life and property safety, causing material and moral losses. Within the scope of this study, examinations were conducted in a facility consisting of a dining hall, laundry, conference hall, boiler room, student and institution laundries, luggage room, mechanical workshop and administrative building including the boiler room, and two separate blocks belonging to a higher education girls dormitory. During the on-site field inspections, the facility was primarily evaluated for compliance with the relevant legal regulations, especially the Regulation on the Protection of Buildings from Fire, as well as occupational health and safety culture. As a result of the inspections carried out at the facility, fire risks were highlighted, including the uncontrolled use of electrical appliances such as irons, water heaters, and hair stylers by students, secret smoking in dormitories, and potential hazards arising from cafeteria activities. In this study, the adequacy of existing measures was evaluated by making field observations with inspection forms prepared with reference to occupational health and safety legislation.
